Denmark has been an international partner for Mozambique since Independence. In 1989 the two countries entered regular cooperation on development and in 1994 Mozambique became a main programme country for Denmark. As a result Denmark annually contributes well over 70 million US $ in support of reform of the public sector and service delivery in education, energy, health, agriculture, environment as well as for private sector development. These resources are made available in a combination of direct budget support, support to common funding arrangements and project funding. A number of Danish private companies and civil society organizations are also operating in Mozambique.
With the overall objective of eradicating poverty, Danish-Mozambican development cooperation is organized as a direct contribution to implementation of Mozambique’s own poverty reduction strategy, the PARPA.
